Receive stock
Add goods that arrived to your stock, with what they cost, how you paid and which warehouse they went into.
When goods arrive without a purchase order, record them with Receive stock. The quantity goes up, the cost updates the product's average cost, and the value is added to your books.
Steps
-
Open Inventory and click Receive stock. It is also on every product page, with the product already picked.
Open Inventory -
Pick the product. Type a few letters of the name, SKU or barcode and choose it. Only stock items can be received, not services.
Pick the product -
Enter the quantity and the cost per unit. The cost starts at the product's current average cost. Change it to what you paid for this delivery.
Quantity and cost -
Say how you paid. Bank or Cash if you paid already, or Opening stock for goods you already owned. Buying on credit to pay the supplier later? Use a purchase order instead, so the supplier bill records what you owe. Add the supplier or delivery note as the Reference.
How you paid -
Choose the warehouse the goods went into (only with Multi-Warehouse), then click Receive stock.
Warehouse, then receive -
Check the product. The quantity on hand went up and the delivery is listed under Stock history as Received.
Stock is updated
Tip Buying from suppliers often? With the Purchases add-on, receive goods against a purchase order instead: the bill and the stock stay matched.
Good to know
- Products that track lots or serial numbers ask for them on this screen.
- A wrong receipt can't be edited. Correct the quantity with Count stock.
