Track serial numbers
Give every unit of a product its own serial number when you receive it, and see which serial numbers are in stock.
Machines, phones and tools are often tracked one by one. Set the product to track serial numbers and each unit you receive gets its own number, which follows it through sales, returns and counts.
Steps
-
Open the product. Products tracked by serial number show a Serial numbers list with each unit in stock. To turn it on, edit the product and choose By serial number (one per unit).
Open the product -
Click Receive stock and enter the quantity. The cost per unit starts at the average cost.
Receive stock -
Type one serial number per line. The counter under the box shows how many you have entered; it must match the quantity. A scanner that ends each scan with Enter fills the box quickly.
One serial number per line -
Click Receive stock. The new serial numbers are listed on the product, ready to sell.
Receive them -
Open a serial number to see where it is now and every move it made, with the invoice or receipt behind it.

Note When you invoice or sell a serial-tracked product, the serial numbers that go out are picked and shown on the stock move.
Good to know
- A serial number can be in stock only once. Receiving one that is already on hand is refused.
- In a stock count, each serial number is a line: 1 means it is here, 0 means it is missing.
