Sell a product in sizes and colours
Add attributes such as size and colour to a product and generate a variant for each combination, with its own SKU, barcode, price and stock.
When you sell the same product in several sizes or colours, add them as variants. Each variant has its own SKU, barcode, price and stock, while the name, category, tax and shop settings stay on the main product.
Steps

Open the product. In Inventory → Products, click the product. Scroll to Attributes & variants. The product must have no stock yet: each variant keeps its own.

Add an attribute and its values. Type the attribute (for example Size) and its values separated by commas (Small, Medium, Large). Click Add attribute.

Add another attribute if you need one, such as Colour. Click a value to rename it or to give it a price extra that is added to new variants.

Click Generate variants. One variant is made for every combination: 3 sizes × 2 colours makes 6.
Generate the variants -
Set each variant's SKU, barcode and price. Change a field and click Save on that line. Archive hides a combination you don't sell.
Set a variant price -
Find them in the product list. Search for the product: each variant is listed with its own SKU and stock. Without a search, the product shows how many variants it has; click + next to it to see them.

Tip Variants without a barcode can get one in a click on Print labels.
Good to know
- Receive, count, sell and transfer each variant on its own. Search for it by its full name, SKU or barcode.
- Added a new value later? Click Generate variants again: only the missing combinations are added.
- A product that already has stock can't get variants. Count it to zero first.
