How part months and unpaid leave are paid
See how payroll pays someone who joined or left mid-month, and how approved unpaid leave is taken off the salary.
Payroll counts working days. Someone who starts or leaves during the month is paid only for the working days they were employed, and approved unpaid leave is taken off at their daily rate. You don't calculate anything yourself.
Steps
-
Open the pay run. In Payroll, click the month you want to check.
Open the pay run -
Someone who joined mid-month. Each payslip shows its paid days next to the name. Their paid days are fewer than the month's working days, and the Basic salary is that share of the monthly salary. Fixed allowances and deductions are shared the same way.
Joined mid-month -
Approved unpaid leave. It shows as its own line, Unpaid leave (1 day), taken off at the daily rate: the monthly salary divided by the month's working days.

Good to know
- Working days leave out your company's weekend days.
- Only approved unpaid leave counts. Paid leave (annual, sick) doesn't change the salary.
- Leave approved after you created the draft? Click Recalculate on the draft run.
- A leaving date on the employee works the same way: they are paid up to that day.
