Pay your tax and the tax lock date
Record the payment of a filed VAT or GST return, and understand why a filed period is locked for tax entries.
After you file a return, record the payment to the tax office (or the refund you get back). Filing also sets a tax lock date, so the figures you filed can't change afterwards.
Steps
-
Open the filed return. In Tax Returns, Filed returns lists each return. Click Open the return.
Open the filed return -
Record the payment. Under Record the payment, set the Date you paid and whether it left the Bank or Cash.
Record the payment -
Click Mark as paid. What you owed the tax office is cleared in your books. For a refund, the button is Mark refund received.
Mark as paid -
Know the lock date. Entries on the tax accounts can't be dated on or before the end of the last filed return, so the figures you filed can't change. Filed returns lists the periods that are closed.
The tax lock date -
Correct it in an open period. Found a mistake in a filed period? Post the correction in the current period, and it goes into your next return.
Good to know
- The lock only applies to the tax accounts (sales tax, purchase tax, tax due). Other entries can still be dated in that period.
- See it in the books on the return opens the settlement and payment entries.
