An issued invoice can't be edited or deleted. If it was a mistake and nothing has been paid, void it. It stays on record, marked Void, so your invoice numbers have no gaps.
Steps
-
Open the invoice. Find it in the Invoices tab of Sales & Invoicing.
-
Click Void. The button shows on issued invoices with no payments and no credit notes. A box asks you to confirm.
Click "Void" -
Click Void invoice. The status changes to Void, and its sales, tax and amount owed come out of your books.
Confirm -
The number is kept. The invoice stays in the list as Void. Make a new invoice if you still need to bill the customer.
The number is kept
Warning Voiding can't be undone.

- Still a draft? Just Edit or Delete it.
- Already paid, partly returned, or you only need to lower the amount? Use a credit note instead.
